Activating Business Potential in
Chicago's Southwest Business District
Street Beautification Projects
The 63rd Street Growth Commission operates numerous initiatives that keep 63rd streetscapes attractive and inviting to shoppers.
Window Banners
Our Window Banner Project is a new twist on the successful light pole banner project the Growth Commission has operated for several years. Vacant storefronts can detract from nearby businesses. Vacant windows loose the interest of shoppers and they may not notice the perfectly viable businesses right next door. The Growth Commission is solving this problem by installing artistic, trendy banners in vacant storefront windows.
Decking Out the Light Poles
More than 600 colorful pole banners welcome shoppers to the 63rd Street business district … and also keep their interest throughout the year as the Growth Commission changes the banners with each new season.
Wiping Out Graffiti
Cleaning up unattractive graffiti keeps local businesses inviting. The Graffiti Blasters program uses soda machines – which work like sandblasters but use baking soda under high pressure – to scrub graffiti from brick, cement and mineral surfaces. It’s safe, effective … and saves local business owners thousands of dollars while enhancing curb appeal.
Sweeping It Clean
Keeping the area looking its best requires ongoing maintenance. The Growth Commission’s street cleaner handles daily sweeping to maintain a pleasing appearance that appeals to shoppers.
Keeping it Green
The 63rd Street district’s charm grows with each planter placed on its commercial sidewalks. The Growth Commission currently maintains over 100 garden pots along 63rd Street.
