Spotlight on Business

Up close and personal

On July 28, 1979, Victor Martinez opened A.M. Shoes as Thom McAn, which was a popular brand among people of all ages at that time and all the way through the mid 1980’s.  Although new to the business world, Victor knew that the only way his shoe store would experience success was by providing high quality products and exceptional customer service.

But Victor had bigger ideas in mind. During his first years in business he noticed that the shoes people wear could affect their overall physical well-being, and that the wrong shoes could actually contribute to leg and back pain.

Curious about this and wanting to learn more, Victor started professional coursework in orthopedic shoe technology in 1983. After earning his first certificate from Ball State University, he went on to earn numerous additional certificates that are a testament to his knowledge of the complexities of orthopedics and his desire to help relieve his customers’ body aches that can come from incorrectly fitting shoes.

In the thirty years since Victor opened A.M. Shoes, he and his wife Patricia have built a reputation for caring about their customers, and for knowing how to help people find truly comfortable shoes that meet basic needs, as well as special orthopedic conditions.

Today A.M. Shoes is one of the only orthopedic shoe stores that is still operating in the Chicagoland area, with name brand shoes for men and women, including SAS comfort and Thorogood work shoes.

Want to see how good a pair of shoes can make you feel?  Or maybe you’re just interested in relaxing with a couple of knowledgeable professionals who genuinely care that you purchase the best product for your particular needs?  Visit A.M.
